At Tyrewise Mechanical, we regularly work on vehicles that have clocked up plenty of kilometres, and this Toyota LandCruiser was a great example of why addressing oil leaks properly can sometimes require much more than replacing a single gasket. The Problem: Extensive Engine Oil Leaks Due to the age and kilometres of this LandCruiser, the engine had developed extensive oil leaks from multiple areas. Both the upper and lower sumps were leaking, along with numerous seals and gaskets throughout the engine bay. Rather than having one isolated leak, oil was escaping from multiple points around the engine. For an older, high-kilometre 4WD, this isn't necessarily unusual. Over time, seals and gaskets can harden, deteriorate and lose their ability to maintain an effective seal. Eventually, what begins as a small oil seep can develop into a much more substantial leak. The Solution: A Full Engine Re-Seal After assessing the extent of the leaks, the best approach was to undertake a full engine re-seal. This was a substantial job involving approximately four solid days of labour. Our team worked methodically through the engine, addressing the leaking upper and lower sumps along with the various seals and gaskets that had deteriorated over the vehicle's life. A repair of this size involves significant dismantling and careful preparation to ensure the new seals and gaskets can do their job correctly. Despite the scale of the work, the entire process ran very smoothly, allowing our technicians to complete the repairs and get the LandCruiser back together and ready for many more kilometres on the road. The Result After four days of intensive work, the LandCruiser left our workshop with its extensive engine oil leaks addressed and a very happy customer behind the wheel. Jobs like this demonstrate the value of proper diagnosis and comprehensive mechanical repairs. When an engine has multiple oil leaks, simply fixing the most obvious one may not solve the overall problem. Sometimes the right solution is to tackle the issue thoroughly rather than having the vehicle repeatedly return as other ageing seals begin to leak. Is Your LandCruiser Leaking Oil? If you've noticed oil spots where you park, oil around the engine, a burning oil smell or your engine oil level regularly dropping, it's worth having the vehicle inspected. Ignoring an oil leak can lead to oil getting onto other engine components and, if the oil level becomes too low, potentially contribute to serious engine damage. At Tyrewise Mechanical in Warana, we can diagnose engine oil leaks and recommend the appropriate repair based on your vehicle's condition, age and kilometres. Whether you drive a Toyota LandCruiser, 4WD, work ute or family vehicle, our experienced team can help keep it running reliably. Need an oil leak investigated? Contact Tyrewise Mechanical today or request a booking online. Have more questions about oil leaks in LandCruisers? Is it normal for an older LandCruiser to leak oil? Oil leaks can become more common as vehicles age and accumulate kilometres because engine seals and gaskets gradually deteriorate. However, an oil leak shouldn't simply be considered something you have to live with. It is worth having the source diagnosed so you understand what repairs may be required. What causes engine seals and gaskets to leak? Seals and gaskets are continually exposed to heat, oil, pressure and repeated heating and cooling cycles. Over time, these components can become hard, brittle or compressed, allowing engine oil to escape. Can you just replace the gasket that is leaking the most? Sometimes an oil leak is isolated and only requires one seal or gasket to be replaced. On older, high-kilometre vehicles, however, there may be several leaks occurring simultaneously. A thorough inspection helps determine whether an individual repair or a more comprehensive re-seal is the better option. How long does a full engine re-seal take? The time required depends on the vehicle, engine and extent of the leaks. In the case of this LandCruiser, the job involved approximately four full days of labour due to the number of seals and gaskets requiring attention and the amount of dismantling involved. Should I get a small engine oil leak checked? Yes. Even if you're only seeing an occasional drop of oil, identifying where it is coming from can help prevent the problem from becoming more extensive. It also gives you the opportunity to plan repairs before the leak becomes more serious. Can Tyrewise Mechanical diagnose oil leaks in Warana? Yes. Tyrewise Mechanical provides mechanical servicing, diagnostics and repairs in Warana and the surrounding Sunshine Coast area. If your vehicle is leaking oil, our team can inspect it, identify the likely source and discuss the appropriate repair options with you.

Due to the age and kilometres of this LandCruiser, the engine had developed extensive oil leaks from multiple areas.

New Car Service in Warana

Engines that operate through internal combustion rely on large amounts of clean air to ensure the fuel burns properly and generates the power needed to drive the vehicle. At Tyrewise Mechanical in Warana, we understand how vital it is to keep your car's air filter in good condition as part of protecting your engine's health. Your engine requires extremely clean air to function efficiently. Dirt, dust, and other particles entering the engine can cause serious damage. That’s where the air filter comes into play. It ensures the air entering the combustion chambers is clean, shielding key engine components such as the pistons and cylinders from wear and damage. Why Replace Your Air Filter? Save on Fuel Costs: Your engine requires the correct balance of fuel and air to run efficiently. A clogged air filter restricts airflow, causing your engine to run inefficiently – often referred to as ‘running rich.’ This not only puts additional stress on your engine but can also increase fuel consumption by up to 10%. No one likes spending more on petrol than necessary! Protect Your Engine: Over time, air filters become clogged and weaker, increasing the risk of damage. A damaged or overly dirty air filter can allow harmful particles to enter the engine, potentially leading to expensive repairs. Benefits of Replacing Your Air Filter: Extends the life of your engine Improves fuel efficiency Reduces vehicle emissions At Tyrewise Mechanical, we always check the condition of your air filter during every full car service. Whether it’s a major or minor service, or one that follows your manufacturer’s handbook or logbook guidelines, you can trust us to keep your engine running smoothly.

Keep your engine healthy with clean air filters. Improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, and extend engine life. Visit Tyrewise Mechanical for expert maintenance and reliable car servicing.
